The Fell Monstrosity is a boss of Enshrouded, bred by the Sorcerer Ikora from Shroud Spores in the Black Cauldron; the one in the Cradle of Dusk is Ikora herself. Its arenas are ringed with calcified statues, and its head pays for Flame level 5.
Fell Monstrosity Location
A small crater-like pocket of Shroud west-northwest of the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire. Climb the spire and glide down to it, or walk north over land. The Alchemist's quest A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist reveals it: after Rattlebleak you follow a trail of calcified statues here. Flame level 4 is needed to survive the Shroud around it.

Abilities
| Ability | Effect | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Triple Shroud Bolts | Opens its chest and fires three Shroud bolts one after another. The first two lock onto you; the third flies in the direction you first moved. | Dodge to one side, then dodge back the other way so the third bolt misses. |
| Shroud Spray | Leans back or hops in place, glows blue while charging, then lobs a volley of Shroud projectiles that land in a spread over targeted areas marked by blue circles. | Keep moving sideways out of the marked areas; do not get stuck in an attack animation while the volley is in the air. |
| Shroud Breath | Breathes Shroud damage in a straight line in front of it. | Strafe out of the line instead of backing away; attack from an angle. |
| Hornet Swarm | Now and then coughs up Hornets that harass you during the fight. | Kill them quickly with any attack or even a torch, then return to the boss. |
| Calcified Statues | Its arenas are dotted with still, human-shaped statues. Touching one either breaks it apart or releases a Fell Berserker, which drops only Runes and sometimes its Sharpened Broadsword. | Do not brush against every statue; if a Berserker appears, make space and kill it before going back to the boss. |
Resistances and Weaknesses
Weaknesses: Vulnerable to fire; flame spells speed the fight up.
How to Beat the Fell Monstrosity
- Have Flame level 4 before going in, or the deadly Shroud around the Cradle of Dusk kills you in seconds.
- Take the Alchemist's quest A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist before your first visit so the first kill also yields the Black Cauldron.
- Fight from range with a bow or staff; it moves slowly but hits hard.
- Keep moving the whole fight and watch for its telegraphs; the ranged attacks are easy to avoid while you stay mobile.
- Clear Hornets and any Fell Berserkers from the statues before focusing the boss again.
- Avoid standing in front of it; circle and hit it from the side.
Drops
| Item | Image | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Fell Monstrosity Head | 1x | |
| Monstrous Ribs | 1-3 | |
| Shroud Nexus | 1x | |
| Legendary Runes | 4-6 | |
| Black Cauldron | 1x |
The head is the boss item for strengthening the Flame from level 4 to level 5, which raises Shroud time to 9 minutes and is needed to move on to the Kindlewastes. Extra heads make wall trophies at the Hunter: plain (1 head), Bronze (3) and Iron (5); a mounted trophy adds Comfort.
Lore
Fell Monstrosities are the result of the sorcerer Ikora's experiments with Shroud Spores in the Black Cauldron; the one at the Cradle of Dusk is Ikora herself. Ikora once lived in Rattlebleak, now full of calcified statues; the statues form a trail from her empty shop to the Cradle of Dusk. Ikora's notes describe a lonely sorcerer who watched the spores dissolve and reshape flesh in the cauldron's swirling liquid, came to feel the cauldron's void calling her, and was finally swallowed by it and became one with it. The Farmer, Emily Fray, is the one who knows Ikora's story. The head's description speaks of despair, hatred and loneliness, a thing that grabs anything to fill its emptiness and leaves only dust. Monstrous Ribs are described as the ribs of the most vile Fell monster.
Notes
- The Cradle of Dusk encounter is usually the first Monstrosity players meet.
- A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist needs The Alchemist's Mortar and Finding Masonry Tools done first; it rewards the Cauldron and 150 XP, and the Cauldron is used to build the Alchemy Station.
- Monstrous Ribs go into the Blackguard, Omen and Plaguebringer armor sets.
- Shroud Nexus, which it also drops, is used to raise a Flame Altar's build area to its highest size.
