You cannot make the Frost Arrow until the Mountain has given up both its Obsidian and the Freeze Glands of its Drakes. It deals 26 pierce and 52 frost damage. At 78 total damage it ranks 6th among ammunition, a step up the ladder rather than the top of it. Frost damage hurts the Blob, Bonemass and Oozer more than most things, and that is what to carry it for.

Crafted at a level 4 Workbench from:

• 8x Wood: Chopped from any tree.
• 4x Obsidian: Mined from Obsidian deposits in the Mountain.
• 2x Feathers: Dropped by Crows and Gulls, and found in chests in the Meadows.
• 1x Freeze Gland: Dropped by Drakes in the Mountain.

When to Use It

Mid game. You can make it once you reach the Mountain, the biome that follows Bonemass, where Obsidian is mined from Obsidian Deposits and Drakes drop the Freeze Gland.

Properties

The split is reversed: 52 frost against 26 pierce. Most arrows are pierce with a little extra on top, but this one is frost with a little pierce. That matters because pierce is the most resisted damage type in the game and frost is not.

Frost also slows. Frost cuts movement and turn speed, so a hit buys you distance as well as damage. On a bow, the one weapon that wants distance, that adds up.

• Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before any other calculation, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
• Bows fire arrows and Crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
