Helmet of the Protector is the head piece of the Protector Armor, the heavy set of the Deep North. It has 44 armour at quality 1, six more than the Flametal Helmet.
How to Craft
Craft it in a Frost Foundry from:
- 1x Cast: Helmet of the Protector: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Bloodgold, Moose Hide and its mould.
- 5x Liquid Frost: Made by freezing ice down in a Frigid Kiln.

Mould
Mould: Helmet of the Protector is found in the Deep North:
- Drops from Krigen that fight with two axes.
When to Use It
This is end game gear. You need Fader dead before you can progress through the Deep North.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it twice at the Black Forge. Each step needs the station one level higher than the last, and the first costs the per-level amount while the second costs twice that. Quality 4 would cost four times the per-level amount, but it needs a level 7 Black Forge, above the current maximum of 6, so that row is not yet available.

Properties
The Protector set has the most armour of any set in the game: 44 a piece and 132 for the three at quality 1, rising to 144 at quality 3. Even so, none of its pieces slows you down, so the movement penalty every earlier heavy set carried is gone. It is cast at a level 4 Black Forge and repaired at one, and you upgrade it there at level 5 for quality 2 and level 6 for quality 3.
Its mould drops from Krigen that fight with two axes. The drop rate is three in a hundred from a plain one, six from a one-star and twelve from a two-star. Dual-axe Krigen live on the floors of Mörkhalla, and the Malicious Ice at the centre of a Jotun invasion adds them to its waves.
It gives 44 armour at quality 1 and 48 at quality 3. It weighs 1 and has 1000 durability, rising to 1400 at quality 3.
Quality 4 needs a level 7 Black Forge, above the current maximum of 6, so in practice the helmet stops at quality 3.
Crafting it from scratch and taking it to quality 3 costs 65 Bloodgold and 13 Moose Hide, plus a mould and 5 Liquid Frost.
The Deep North offers three pieces for this slot: the Protector helmet with 44 armour at 1 weight, the Vanguard hood with 34 armour at 1 weight, and the Caller headdress with 22 armour at 1 weight. Since all three weigh the same, you are choosing between the Protector's armour, the Vanguard's set bonus and the Caller's eitr.
Notes
- The helmet is the one Protector piece made without leather straps. Its cast takes twenty Bloodgold, four Moose Hide and the mould.
- At 1 weight it gives more armour per unit of weight than any other piece of the set, since the others weigh 5 each.
