Trousers of the Protector are the leg piece of the Protector Armor, the heavy set of the Deep North. They give 44 armour at quality 1.
How to Craft
Made in a Frost Foundry from:
- 1x Cast: Trousers of the Protector: Poured at a level 4 Black Forge from Bloodgold, Moose Hide, Leather Straps and its mould.
- 5x Liquid Frost: Frozen down from Ice in a Frigid Kiln.

Upgrades
You can upgrade it twice at the Black Forge. Each step needs the station one level higher than the last: the first costs the per-level amount and the second costs twice that. Quality 4 would cost four times the per-level amount and needs a level 7 Black Forge, above its current maximum of 6, so that row is not yet available.

Properties
The Protector set has the most armour of any set in the game: 44 a piece and 132 for the three pieces at quality 1, rising to 144 at quality 3. Even so, none of its pieces slows you down, so the movement penalty every earlier heavy set carried is gone. It is cast at a level 4 Black Forge and repaired at one, then upgraded there at level 5 for quality 2 and at level 6 for quality 3.
Its mould drops from Krigen that fight with two axes. The drop rate is three in a hundred from a plain one, six from a one-star and twelve from a two-star. Dual-axe Krigen live on the floors of Mörkhalla, and the Malicious Ice at the centre of a jotun invasion adds them to its waves.
It gives 44 armour at quality 1 and 48 at quality 3. It weighs 5 and has 1000 durability, rising to 1400 at quality 3.
That is 6 more than the Flametal Greaves, the best piece for this slot before the Deep North.
Quality 4 needs a level 7 Black Forge, above its current maximum of 6, so in practice it stops at quality 3.
Crafted from scratch and taken to quality 3, it costs 65 Bloodgold, 17 Moose Hide and 13 Leather Straps in total, plus a mould and 5 Liquid Frost.
The Deep North offers these pieces for this slot. The Protector trousers give 44 armour at 5 weight, the Vanguard trousers 34 armour at 5 weight, and the Caller trousers 22 armour at 5 weight with -2% movement. They all weigh the same, so you are choosing between the Protector's armour, the Vanguard's set bonus and the Caller's eitr.
Notes
- Its cast takes twenty Bloodgold, eight Moose Hide, four Leather Straps and the mould, the same as the breastplate.
- The description calls them heavy boots and trousers to keep you warm as you trudge through deep snow, but the warmth comes from the breastplate, not from this piece.
- Once it reaches its last quality level, the Forge of Potential can push it further with a Bloodgold Protection Idol.
