Memorial Coal is coal that still glows with an old memory: stare into the haze, says its description, and you can almost see it play out. Put three of them on the ancient altar of a memorial site and a fallen warrior appears. Beating that warrior is the only way to get frostfire and thunderblood essences, so every essence starts with three memorial coal on the altar, and a warrior may still drop neither. It weighs 2 and stacks to 50.
How to Get It
In Mörkhalla you get it mainly from fire pits. Each pit breaks for two to four memorial coal or ordinary coal, and the coal piles on the bottom floor give three to five memorial coal.
Krigen carry it too. A normal Krigen drops it one time in five, a one-star Krigen drops two pieces two times in five, and a two-star Krigen drops four pieces four times in five. Once the first jotun is dead, Krigen also patrol the open Deep North by day.
Notes
- A fallen warrior has 750 health and resists blunt, slash, pierce and fire. It ignores poison, so spirit damage is its weakness.
- Its weapons are ones you know from earlier in the game: a bronze axe, the knives Skoll and Hati, the lightning staff Dundr, a crystal battleaxe, a black metal sword, a draugr fang bow with a silver knife, or a staff of embers.
What It Is For
A memorial site is a field of headstones around an ancient altar. You find them in the Deep North at 2 to 1,000 metres up, with up to 15 in a world. Three memorial coal on the altar summon one aggressive fallen warrior, an undead warrior with a random name. It comes in one of seven builds, from a bronze-armoured axeman to a fire mage with a staff of embers. Each essence has its own one in two drop chance, so a warrior can leave both, one or neither.
The site pays out in other ways while you are there. One chest is buried at the centre and up to nine more lie under tombstones. Each holds a weapon, shield or staff mould or a silver necklace, and a vegvisir by the altar points to Kall Fimbulbringer.
