The Crystal Battleaxe pairs the crystal and silver of the Mountain with a shaft of Ancient Bark hauled out of the Swamp, and it puts spirit damage into a two-handed swing, which the undead feel more than anything else. It deals 90 slash, 50 chop and 30 spirit. That is 170 damage in total, which ranks 8th among axes, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Spirit damage hurts a Bat, Ghost or Wraith more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
Crafted at a level 3 forge from:
- 40x Ancient Bark: Chopped from ancient trees in the Swamp.
- 30x Silver: Smelted from silver ore in a smelter.
- 10x Crystal: Dropped by stone golems and mined from crystal in the Mountain.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ancient Bark | Swamp | - | spawn ElderBark

| Silver | Mountain | Smelter | spawn Silver

| Crystal | Meadows | - | spawn Crystal

When to Use It
Mid game. Silver lies under the Mountain snow and you need a Wishbone to find it, so this comes after Bonemass.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other stat on this page is for quality 1, so the table below shows the ladder your own copy sits on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Slash | Spirit | Chop (trees) | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forge (Level 3) | 90 | 30 | 50 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Forge (Level 4) | 96 | 30 | 52.5 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Forge (Level 5) | 102 | 30 | 55 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Forge (Level 6) | 108 | 30 | 57.5 | 350 |

Properties
The draw is 30 spirit on a two-hander. Nothing in the game resists spirit, and the two-handed primary does not split its damage across a crowd, so every Draugr in the room takes all of it. The creatures that take extra spirit damage are undead and demons: Wraiths, Ghosts, Bats and later the Charred.
Against anything living it is the weaker battleaxe. It deals 90 slash to the Black Metal Battleaxe's 110, and spirit does nothing to anything that breathes. This is a dungeon weapon, not an all-rounder.
Notes
- The blade glows, which makes you easier to spot while sneaking. That makes it the wrong axe when you plan to open with a backstab.
