The Mortar and pestle is a cauldron improvement from the Crafting Stations tab: a bowl of black marble set into a timber frame, made for grinding. Placing it beside the pot raises the kitchen to its fifth level, which is where the Mistlands recipes finally open up.
How to Build It
It costs eight black marble, six finewood and four corewood. Despite all that marble, it needs a workbench in range rather than a stonecutter, which surprises anyone coming straight off a marble build. It only counts as an upgrade while it stands close enough to the cauldron, so leave a clear run of bench space beside the pot when you build the kitchen. The frame is plain timber and rots in the rain like any other, one more reason to keep the whole kitchen under a roof.
