Only a Black Metal Pickaxe or better can mine Black Marble, which keeps it out of reach until you are already working the Mistlands. You quarry it from the Giant Remains and the Dvergr ruins standing in the mist.
How to Get It
Swing a Black Metal pickaxe at the Giant Remains, or at the black marble walls and platforms the Dvergr have built, and the stone breaks loose in bricks. You can also take Dvergr structures apart with a Stonecutter, and Dvergr Rogues and Mages drop the odd brick when killed. Damaging their property turns every Dvergr nearby hostile, though. Black Marble behaves like ordinary stone on the way home and goes through a portal, so you can quarry far from base. Bring the right pickaxe, because the marble ignores iron and everything below it.
