Every pine you bring down in the Black Forest leaves a Pine Cone lying in the needles, and felling pines is the only way to get one.

Farming

It takes one plant, and it does not need tilled soil. Put the seed in bare ground and leave four to six metres clear around it, or the sapling will not take.

How to Get It

Fell pines and break down the logs, and the cones drop as the tree comes apart. A stone axe handles pine perfectly well, so this is one of the first materials you can farm on your first walk into the Black Forest, long before a bronze axe unlocks birch and oak. Watch where the trunk falls: a pine landing on you does more damage than most of the mobs in the biome. The noise of chopping also pulls greydwarves in from the dark.
