Petrified Tissue is the ore of the Deep North. It comes from petrified gammeltrolls: the statues a Gammeltroll leaves where it dies, which stay part of the terrain from then on, and the petrified arms and legs found half-buried in the snow, up to 30 of each in a world. Break them open and they drop Stone and Petrified Tissue, and the tissue is smelted into Bloodgold.

It is as heavy as the metal it becomes, at 14 weight a piece and 30 to a stack, and like every ore it is refused by a normal portal.

How to Get It

A Gammeltroll spawns when a player comes within 120 metres of its spawn point, and it throws logs from up to 300 metres away. It has 3,000 health and resists blunt, slash, pierce and frost. Its head is its weak point, where pickaxe damage lands at double.

A whole statue has 52 segments, a loose arm has 7 and a loose leg has 20. Only tier 6 pickaxe damage breaks a segment, which for a player means Ember Charges. Each segment drops two or three items, and each one is Petrified Tissue one time in three and Stone otherwise.

Expect about 43 tissue from a whole statue, 17 from a leg and 6 from an arm. Charges hit everything within three metres.

Notes

A Blast Furnace turns one piece into one bar of Bloodgold in 30 seconds for two coal.
A Stone Portal carries it, but an ordinary portal does not.
You can build on statues, so a statue left standing can be the foundation of an outpost instead of a mine.
Every Gammeltroll you kill makes a new statue, so the tissue is a renewable resource.
A living Gammeltroll's punch is strong enough to break a statue, which in theory puts Bloodgold within reach as early as after Moder, long before Ember Charges exist.
The logs a Gammeltroll throws stay where they land as half logs. Each one chops into three items: Wood two times in three and Timberwood one time in three.
A whole statue also drops about 87 Stone.
