Every stone wall, every Smelter and every Hearth starts out as Stone. It lies loose on the ground throughout the Black Forest, and you also get it from boulders, Greydwarves and Stone Golems.
How to Get It
You can pick up the small stones scattered across the Meadows and the Black Forest by hand, without any tool, which makes Stone the one building material you can gather from your first minute in Valheim. Boulders and rock outcrops have to be mined, so the real supply opens up once you carry the Antler Pickaxe won from Eikthyr. Greydwarves and Greydwarf Brutes drop it when they die. Stone Golems in the Mountains drop the most, but they shrug off most weapons and are best worn down with a pickaxe. Stone goes through portals, so you can skip the cart on a mining trip.
