Timberwood is the lumber of the Deep North: a sturdy wood from the biome's firs and pines, which its description calls excellent for mighty halls. Nearly every Nord weapon uses it alongside Bloodgold in the cast, and it forms the frame of Timber and Scalewood buildings.
Each piece weighs 2 and it stacks to 50. Unlike the metal it is cast with, it goes through any portal, so you can cut it in bulk and carry it home the easy way.
How to Get It
Felling trees is the main way to get it, and the two kinds of tree are not equal. A fir log half breaks into ten drops, each with a one in five chance of being Timberwood and otherwise Wood or a Timberwood Cone, so a fir averages about two Timberwood per half. A pine log half breaks into fifteen drops at one in three, about five per half. Pines are worth more than twice as much, so they are the trees to look for.
Stumps pay as well. A pine stump breaks for two Timberwood and other Deep North stumps for one to six, while a fir stump gives only plain Wood. Snowy branches lying on the ground pick up as one Timberwood each and grow back after 240 minutes, so a walk through the forest is worth a small stack on its own.
Some of it comes from places that are not trees at all. In the Winding Tunnels, the root walls that block the passages have 150 health and drop Timberwood half the time you break them, and the smaller roots on floors and walls break for more. Rubble piles, wardrobe shafts, Hexahedric Pulp and some of the furniture in the ruins drop it too, and the half logs a Gammeltroll throws chop into Timberwood one time in three.
Notes
- Timberwood Cones, the other fir drop, grow new timber trees when you plant them with a Cultivator.
Timberwood Crafting Recipes
Each Nord weapon takes 10 Timberwood for its cast and 15 more on the way to quality 3, the most a level 6 Black Forge allows: 5 for the second level and 10 for the third. The Knucklechains cast takes none, though its upgrades do, and the Greatsword uses Frozen Branches instead. The Greatshield cast takes 20 and the Buckler cast 10. Twenty Bloodgold Arrows or Bolts cost 8, twenty Bloodgold Missiles cost 10, and the Moose Saddle costs 5. Crafting every recipe below once takes 171 Timberwood.
Building uses far more. A Timber Wall or Lathed Timber Wall costs 4, beams and poles cost 2 to 4, and the Scalewood walls 1 or 2. The big pieces add up fast: 24 for the Timberwood Gate or the Drawbridge, 20 for the Long Carved Table, 15 for the Antler Throne, 10 for a Wardrobe and 50 for a decorative Timberwood Stack. The Smoker, Smith's Aprons, carved benches and chairs, the Standing Loom and the Hooded Lantern all take a few more.
