The Trollstav is a magic staff in Valheim, dealing 100 chop, 100 pickaxe and 300 fire. It carries the highest total damage of any magic staff in the game, 500 across all types. Fire damage hurts Abomination, Bat and Bear more than most things, which is what to carry it for. It is a summoning staff: casting it raises a Troll to fight for you, and the damage figures in the class table belong to that troll rather than to the staff.

How to Craft

Crafted at Galdr table, station level 2.
Costs 15x Charred bone, 1x Troll trophy, 3x Flametal, 1x Bloodstone at quality 1.
Materials can be found in the Ashlands biome.

When to Use It

Late game. Flametal is in the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes and, until 1.0, the hardest biome in the game.

Upgrades

Upgraded 3 times after crafting, each level wanting the station built one step further up than the last. Every figure quoted elsewhere on this wiki is quality 1, so this is the ladder your own copy is somewhere on:

Properties

2,000 health of troll. More than any other summon in the game, swinging for blunt, chop and pickaxe with a ground slam that carries its own area of effect and a thrown stone for anything out of reach.

120 Eitr and 60% of your current health, the dearest cast in the game on both counts. Because it is a share of current rather than maximum health it cannot kill you, but it does leave you at 40% in the Ashlands.

So it pairs with the Staff of Protection. Summon, then barrier yourself: the one cast that puts you at 40% health and the one cast that makes you unkillable for a few seconds belong in the same hotbar.

Notes

It needs a Troll trophy and a Bloodstone at every upgrade level, so the ladder is gated on Charred Fortress drops rather than on metal.
