Somewhat Damaged is the Phantom Liberty main job on Solomon Reed's path in which V hunts Songbird through Cynosure, a hidden and abandoned Militech facility deep under Dogtown. It follows Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos. Songbird cuts V off from Johnny and turns the base against V, including the Cerberus, a war machine that cannot be killed.
Story
The Trail
The journal sets the tone. V is chasing a woman with nothing left to lose, and nothing makes a person more dangerous. Reed still thinks he can save her. Johnny wonders whether Reed is fooling himself, or simply knows his old friend too well. And who will V find at the end? Johnny suspects that even Songbird does not know.
From a hole in the wall, V reaches the crashed MaxTac truck. It holds traces of the Blackwall, and those traces become a trail to Songbird. The trail leads through sealed gates and flooded passages and down a deep shaft, to a room with a terminal bearing the Cynosure logo, the edge of the facility.
Cynosure
A lift takes V deeper, and Songbird cuts Johnny off, leaving V alone. Along the way, V sees "memories" of Songbird: talking with Hansen, undergoing surgery by the FIA, standing up afterwards, taking an oath with Myers, and talking with Reed. When V finally sees Songbird past a gateway, she closes the gate and locks the facility down.
The Cerberus
To break the lockdown, V must disable terminals across the base. When V crawls out from under one of them, a grate falls on V, and a Militech Cerberus controlled by Songbird appears. From then on it hunts V through the halls. It cannot be harmed by weapons or quickhacks, and the only way to survive is to avoid it.
The Core
V disables terminals in Engineering and Security, opens the gate to Sector 3 and passes through airlocks to Core Control. There V talks with Songbird and starts a shutdown of the core, but three subsystems must be shut down by hand: the neural network, the datafront central command and thermic control. With all three off, V returns to Core Control. A final sequence stops the Cerberus, and V talks with Songbird before deciding her fate in the next job, Leave in Silence.
Somewhat Damaged Walkthrough
Search for Songbird
- Go through the hole in the wall and down to the crashed MaxTac truck.
- Search the truck to find the Blackwall traces.
- Force open the two sealed gates with 20 Body, or find the floor exit panel and swim through the flooded passages.
- Talk to Johnny if desired, then dive down the deep shaft.
- Leave the water and follow the traces to the room with the Cynosure terminal.
Into Cynosure
- Take the lift down. Johnny is cut off here.
- Watch the memory of Songbird and Hansen, and pick up the site map next to the terminal.
- Force open the door with enough Body.
The Lockdown
- Find Songbird past the gateway. She seals the gate.
- Disable terminal Alpha: force open the shutters to the server room, jack in and complete the Breach Protocol.
- Drop through the floor exit that opens and climb the ladder to terminal Bravo.
- Scan Bravo to find its power cables, crawl under it and unplug it.
The Cerberus
- Remove the grate that falls on V quickly, or the game ends.
- Run from the Cerberus into the only open room and drop through the floor exit on the left to hide.
- Climb the ladder to the living quarters. A site map lies on a bed.
- Reach Engineering through the door opposite, with enough Body, or through the doors across from Administration.
- Disable terminal Sierra in Engineering with the Breach Protocol, then leave once it is safe.
- Go to Security, the second door on the left towards the Sector 3 gate, and disable terminal Victor the same way.
- Open the gate with its terminal and run from the Cerberus down the only path into Sector 3.
- Enter each airlock, close the door and wait for it to cycle.
The Core
- Talk with Songbird in Core Control and start the core shutdown.
- Neural network: enter Labs, go into the room on the left and unplug its three cables.
- Datafront central command: go through the Observation Room to its three rooms and destroy the six firewall devices. The Cerberus comes down from a vent each time one is destroyed.
- Thermic control: hack its terminal with high Intelligence, or trace its cables to an electrical panel outside the shutters and override it.
- Return to Core Control past the Cerberus and use the terminal.
- Loot the fallen Cerberus, then talk with Songbird.
Optional Loot
- Maintenance, opposite Engineering: rewire the distribution box in the back room of the Storage Area with Technical Ability to power the door, then take the Erebus crafting spec. The ceiling vents here lead straight into Sector 3 but skip and lock off the earlier area.
- Experimental Prototyping, near the neural network room: open it with Intelligence or the code 714212 to find the blueprint for the Militech Canto cyberdeck.
Rewards
Completing Somewhat Damaged rewards Crowbar (iconic) (missable), Erebus blueprints (missable), Militech Canto blueprints (missable) and Behavioral system component (missable).
The Erebus crafting spec and the blueprint for the Militech Canto cyberdeck can both be found in the base. An Iconic one handed club lies on some crates in the corner just past the first sealed gate. Loot can also be taken from the fallen Cerberus at the end.
Tips
The Cerberus cannot be fought. It follows a set patrol route unless it is chasing V or reacting to noise, and it does not enter certain rooms. Following it until it climbs into the ceiling vents gives the most time to reach the next goal. Completing an objective brings it into the room through the door or the ceiling, so hide or leave first. Firing a weapon draws it straight to V, but a grenade thrown elsewhere sends it to check that spot instead. Once it has spotted V outside a scripted scene, escape is impossible.
The Sandevistan implant malfunctions in Cynosure. It does not slow time, and it drains health until it is switched off.
Notes
- Several copies of the site map lie around Cynosure and can be read like the dossiers in Firestarter.
- A computer in an office at the bottom of the lift shows strange, garbled messages.
