The Ash of War: Seppuku is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Blood affinity and the Seppuku skill. It is found in the Mountaintops of the Giants, near the end of a run.
Seppuku is a forbidden technique of the swordsmen from the Land of Reeds: the wielder plunges the blade into their own stomach, staining it with blood. The self-inflicted blood loss costs a chunk of HP but grants a 60 second weapon buff that adds physical attack power and bleed buildup scaling with Arcane. The blood loss also triggers effects that activate when bleeding occurs nearby. It suits Arcane bleed builds running katanas, swords and thrusting polearms.

It grants the Blood affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Keen, Heavy, Quality, Poison or Occult. The skill costs 4 FP. It fits Straight Sword, Light Greatsword, Greatsword, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Great Katana, Twinblade, Spear, Great Spear and Halberd.
How to Get Ash of War: Seppuku Guide
- Dropped by an invisible Teardrop Scarab on the northern side of the Frozen Lake in the Mountaintops of the Giants, east of the Freezing Lake Site of Grace.
- The First Church of Marika stands at the opposite end of the lake.
- Once obtained, it can be duplicated by trading Lost Ashes of War to Smithing Master Hewg at the Roundtable Hold.

Skill
The buff should be applied before engaging, since the animation is slow and costs HP. Triggering it with the White Mask or the Lord of Blood's Exultation equipped grants their damage bonus immediately. It also clears a nearly full blood loss meter, which can prevent a larger bleed proc from an enemy. As a weapon buff it replaces Bloodflame Blade and greases.
