The Thorned Whip is a Whip in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Late game. It is found around Mountaintops of the Giants, far enough in that it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.
Why Players Pick It
The value pick and the answer to 'best right now' before Mountaintops. Blood loss 50 at only Str 8 / Dex 16 and 2.5 weight, second-highest raw damage in the class, and Keen takes it to A Dex. It drops from Fire Prelates at a 4% rate, so it is available far earlier than Hoslow's.
Upgrades
Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at E and Dex at C, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 8 and Dex 16 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling. It also causes blood loss buildup (50) on its own, with no infusion needed.
Notes
Hefty whip covered in crimson thorns. Weapon of the Prelates who lead the Fire Monks. A device of fearsome religious encouragement, it is fashioned in the image of the briars of sin. Very effective at inflicting blood loss.
