The Urumi is a Whip in Elden Ring.
When to Use It
Mid game. It is found around Liurnia of the Lakes, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.
Why Players Pick It
The only whip that deals Slash instead of Strike, and it has a unique R2 that is a slash followed by a thrust, so it is the one whip that covers Slash/Pierce weaknesses. Its high Dex scaling 'lends itself well to Keen and Lightning infusions', and Keen at +25 reaches S Dex, the highest scaling grade anywhere in the class.
Upgrades
Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.
Build
Its scaling runs Str at E and Dex at C, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 10 and Dex 19 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling.
Notes
This weapon made of extremely thin, flexible blades of metal is wielded like a whip by Nightfolk warriors. Though in essence a whip with a cutting edge, it can also be used as a spear to pierce foes.
