Both the Staff of Protection and the strongest healing mead start with a Blood Clot. It drops from the Ticks that swarm the Mistlands.
How to Get It
Ticks need no special tool, just a weapon and some warning. They hunt in the Mistlands and are almost invisible in the mist until they latch on and start draining you, so carry a Wisplight and keep your back clear. Kill them and the clot drops readily. Ticks turn up wherever you travel in the biome, so clots tend to pile up on trips you take for other reasons.
Notes
Blood Clots can be farmed by provoking a Gjall and keeping it alive, ideally on flat, open ground with room to move. Every so often it spawns Ticks in groups of three, and each Tick drops Blood Clots when killed. While waiting for the next group, dodge or block the Gjall's projectiles.
