The Iron Sword is the plain workhorse of the iron age: the blade you carry out of your first Sunken Crypt and keep swinging until you find silver in the Mountain. It deals 55 slash, and at 55 total damage it ranks 14th among swords, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 2 forge from:
- 2x Wood: Chopped from any tree.
- 20x Iron: Smelted from Scrap Iron in a Smelter.
- 3x Leather Scraps: Drops from boars and bats, and dug out of muddy scrap piles.

When to Use It
This is early game gear. Iron comes from Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, so it opens up once The Elder is down.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:

Properties
You need a Forge upgrade first. Unlike the Bronze Sword, this one needs the Forge at level 2 before you can make it at all, so in practice the Forge Cooler or the anvils are part of the recipe.
You get 57% more damage for 2 more stamina: 55 slash against bronze's 35, at 10 stamina against 8. It is the biggest single jump in the class, and it lands just as the Swamp starts asking questions.
Notes
- It is still pure slash, so in the Sunken Crypts you want a club in the other slot for the Skeletons.
