Little that came out of the Mistlands survives contact with the Ashlands, and Nidhögg is the one-handed sword that does. You forge it from charred bone, asksvin hide and flametal at the black forge. It deals 135 slash. With 135 total damage it ranks 9th among swords, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it.
How to Craft
You craft it at a level 3 black forge from:
- 3x Charred Bone: dropped by the charred in the Ashlands.
- 12x Flametal: smelted from flametal ore in a blast furnace.
- 2x Asksvin Hide: dropped by asksvin in the Ashlands.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charred Bone | Ashlands | - | spawn CharredBone
| |
| Flametal | Ashlands | Blast Furnace | spawn FlametalNew
| |
| Asksvin Hide | Ashlands | - | spawn AskHide
|
When to Use It
Late game. Flametal comes from the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this is the ladder your own copy sits somewhere on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Slash | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 3) | 135 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 4) | 141 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 5) | 147 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Black forge (Level 6) | 153 | 350 |
|

Properties
Its 135 slash is the most of any one-handed sword. That is more slash than Dyrnwyn deals, and 20 more than a Mistwalker deals in total, with your shield hand still free.
Choose your gemstone before you climb the upgrade ladder. Fitting a gemstone does not keep the quality level: a quality 4 Nidhögg re-forged into a variant comes back at quality 1, and you pay for the whole ladder again. It can become 3 variants: Bleeding (Bloodstone), Thundering (Iolite) and Primal (Jade). The stones drop from Charred chests in the Charred Fortresses.
Notes
- Plain Nidhögg is a finished weapon in its own right. If no gemstone has dropped for you yet, upgrade it and use it.
