Iolite is the gemstone that puts lightning into a weapon, and you loot it from the charred chests inside the Charred Fortresses of the Ashlands.

How to Get It

Iolite is loot, not ore, so no pickaxe tier applies. It sits in charred chests inside the fortresses that stand over the Ashlands, and those fortresses are garrisoned rather than quietly abandoned. To reach one you cross the Ocean to a burning continent and fight through Charred warriors and their mages on the way in. Fire resistance mead is worth drinking before the walls. The gem itself is small and stacks deep, so a single fortress can be worth several upgrades.

• Chain lightning can hit nearby Dvergr even when they are not hostile to you yet. Avoid using storm weapons around them, because a group of Dvergr Mages can be deadly, and even a few Ashlands Dvergr Rogues can easily stagger and kill you.
