Dazed and Confused is a Phantom Liberty side job in which the fixer Mr. Hands sends V to rescue a braindance star who seems to have been kidnapped in Dogtown. It starts with a message from Mr. Hands after You Know My Name begins, at a rental studio called Brainporium. The "star" turns out to be a fan who has lost himself in her braindances, and V ends up directing a braindance shoot to set things right.

Story

A Real Stinker

The journal sees a cheap film plot: an abducted braindance actress, a mysterious kidnapper, and V to the rescue. Johnny warns that if even Mr. Hands does not want the credit for this one, it must be a real stinker.

Mr. Hands has heard from Lina Malina, a local braindance celebrity, who claims to be held against her will at the Brainporium, a rental studio on top of a building in Dogtown. Inside, V finds Edgar Tool locked in a room, insisting that he is Lina.

Tool and Shank

Shank, who stands guard outside, explains. Tool has long been a big fan of Lina. During a power cut while he was watching one of her braindances, his mind was scrambled, and now he believes he is Lina. Instead of calling a ripperdoc, Shank decided to fix him with a new braindance starring the real Lina. Johnny calls the whole thing a circus on drugs, but money is money.

V can text Viktor Vektor or Judy Álvarez for advice. Both suggest causing cognitive dissonance, and V can look for something with sentimental value to Tool. Shank sends V to Lina's home to talk her into the shoot.

Lina Malina

A group of Scavengers waits outside Lina's home. They are part of her crew. V can fight them and hide the bodies, talk them into leaving as a Streetkid, or break into her apartment with 20 Technical Ability to read her schedule and use it to send them away. Then V waits for Lina to come home after dark.

V has several ways to persuade her: send her the photo of Kerry Eurodyne and Us Cracks, mention a part in Joshua Stephenson's braindance The Passion, claim her agent sent V, simply convince her, or pay her. If she notices her missing guards and V admits to killing them, she flees inside, and the job fails.

The Shoot

The next day, at the Brainporium, Lina and Tool are arguing, and V has to direct the scene. V's directions decide the result. The scene can make them sisters, a story the journal calls the right kind of mass market pulp for Night City. V can tell Tool he is an FIA clone, after which he goes into hiding. Or the shock can bring back Tool's real self, at the cost of a mediocre braindance.

Dazed and Confused Walkthrough

The Brainporium

  1. Read Mr. Hands's message after You Know My Name begins.
  2. Go to the Brainporium on top of a building in Dogtown.
  3. Find Edgar Tool locked in a room and talk to him if desired.
  4. Talk to Shank outside the room and follow him upstairs.
  5. Text Viktor or Judy for advice about Tool if desired.
  6. Look for something with sentimental value for Tool if desired.

Lina's Home

  1. Go to Lina's home.
  2. Deal with the Scavengers outside: fight them and hide the bodies, talk them away as a Streetkid, or read her schedule inside with 20 Technical Ability and use it.
  3. Wait until dark for Lina.
  4. Talk to Lina and persuade her, or pay her.
  5. Tell Shank she has agreed.

The Shoot

  1. Return to the Brainporium the next day.
  2. Sit in the director's seat and observe the shoot.
  3. Take charge of the shoot and give the directions.
  4. Message Mr. Hands that the job is done.

Choices

Freeing Tool Early

Convincing Shank to let Tool go, or opening the door with the code 1111, ends the job early. The only reward is a thank you kiss from "Lina".

The Directions

A huge hit pleases Lina and Shank. Shank pays V, and Lina leaves gifts, including later her car, the Malina-mobile. A mediocre result still pays, and Lina leaves Baby Boomer and later her T-shirt. A bad performance drives Lina away, but restores Tool's mind. Johnny praises V for helping Tool, but no gifts come from Lina.

The sister story leads to more braindances with Lina and "Toolina". Depending on how Joshua's story ended, Rachel Casich later messages V about a pitch for a "Lina and Toolina" show, and the pair can be found at a photo shoot outside.

Rewards

Completing Dazed and Confused pays €$ 8,000. It also rewards Baby Boomer (depending on choices), Lina Malina's T-shirt (depending on choices) and Malina-mobile (depending on choices).

The Iconic two handed club Baby Boomer can be found at the entrance of the Brainporium area, or is left by Lina as a gift. Shank pays eddies, and Lina's gifts depend on the result.

Notes

  • If Sweet Dreams was finished earlier, V compares Tool's state to that job.
  • The Brainporium and Lina's home both have computers with messages to read.
