Spy in the Jungle is a Phantom Liberty gig from Mr. Hands in Dogtown, Pacifica. Two agents of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency, Steven Santos and Ana Friedman, are looking for their mentor, Mark Bana, who vanished in Dogtown and was thought dead. His biomonitor has just come back to life, inside Organitopia, an old museum in Terra Cognita held by Scavengers under Boris Ribakov. Nothing about the job is what it seems.

Story

Spy Games

Mr. Hands sets the tone in the journal. Powerful fingers like to poke at the pie called Dogtown. Without the spy games and the struggles between forces few can understand, he says, the place would be as dull as any other. Two Brazilian agents have reached out to him about a missing man, Mark Bana. As with every intelligence job, there is a catch, perhaps several. The agents seem to be working without the approval of their own agency, and Hands advises V to ask about their true motives.

The Agents

Steven and Ana wait in room 203 of the Paradise Hotel in the Longshore Stacks. They explain that Bana's biomonitor has switched back on, and that Scavengers are hunting him in Organitopia. They have no official permission to investigate, so they need a merc to find him under the radar.

Organitopia

Scavengers guard the museum's locked entrance. Inside, a voice that sounds like Bana gets in touch, says he is fine, and asks V to come through the great jungle exhibit. Scavengers and netrunners patrol the ground floor and the glass walkways above, among switched off landmines and turrets. If V fights them, Bana refuses to open the next door until they are all gone.

In the megafauna hall, Bana directs V to a room at the back. As V reaches it, Ribakov drops from the ceiling.

Katya

After the fight, V finds Bana's room in ruins and a hidden room behind it. "Bana" turns out to be a woman, Katya Karelina, who has been using a voice changer implant to pose as him. She admits she questioned the real Bana for SovOil before he died, though she claims she did not kill him. Ana, listening in, orders V to kill her. Katya offers a deal instead: her life for the location of a secret stash.

The Biomonitor

Back at the hotel, Steven and Ana are packing and arguing over what to do with the biomonitor. Steven reveals that Brazil is in talks with SovOil, and that the agency knew SovOil killed Bana but chose to look away so as not to spoil the deal. Ana means to leak the data to the media and to the rest of the agency. Whichever agent V sides with thanks V, while the other storms out to lean on a railing outside.

The Briefing

  1. Go to the Paradise Hotel in the Longshore Stacks and up to room 203.
  2. Talk to the agents.

Organitopia

  1. Go to Organitopia in Terra Cognita and deal with the Scavengers outside.
  2. Find a way in: through the smashed gate, then force the shuttered window on the left with 3 Body, and jack into the access point on the wall.
  3. Talk to Bana.
  4. Go to the main museum hall, past the jungle exhibit, fighting or sneaking past the Scavengers.
  5. Talk to Bana and head for the room upstairs.

Ribakov

  1. Defeat Ribakov when he drops from the ceiling.
  2. Destroy the drones he calls in.
  3. Finish him on the ground.

Katya

  1. Find Bana's room and enter the secret room behind it.
  2. Talk to the stranger, then confront Katya.
  3. Kill Katya, or let her go in exchange for her stash.
  4. Take the biomonitor and leave the area.

The Agents

  1. Deliver the biomonitor to the agents at the hotel, or read Steven's message and leave it at the fixer's drop point.
  2. Hand the biomonitor over, or destroy it.

Choices

Katya's Life

Letting Katya live gets the location of her secret stash and starts the side job Money For Nothing. She can still be killed after she gives up the location.

Steven or Ana

Siding with Steven, by leaving the biomonitor at the drop point or destroying it, keeps the SovOil deal alive. A few days later, Steven texts from Night City and asks to meet, which starts The Show Must Go On.

Siding with Ana lets the data out. A few days later, Steven can be found at the EBM Petrochem Stadium by the AUTOFIXER terminal. He has joined Barghest as an analyst to lie low in Dogtown, and he resents V for it. Ana went back to Night City and was sent home to Brazil, where she is now in prison for treason. The scandal ended the SovOil deal, cost a director at the agency his job, and earned Bana a medal after his death.

Rewards

Completing Spy in the Jungle pays €$ 3,000, 1,832 experience and 167 Street Cred. It also rewards Pizdets (missable).

The gig pays eddies and Street Cred. Ribakov drops his Iconic submachine gun, Pizdets.

Tips

Ribakov is a hard fight. He uses optical camo, a Sandevistan, and smoke and flash grenades to slip away and move around. At first he snipes from the catwalks above with a Nekomata. After losing part of his health, he vanishes and sends in Griffin drones. Once most drones are down, he returns to fight on the ground with a smart submachine gun, and creates holograms of himself to confuse V.
