The Rescue is the main job that follows the opening of the story, after the life path jobs and a montage of the months V and Jackie Welles spend working together. The fixer Wakako Okada hires the pair to find Sandra Dorsett, a client whose biomonitor went dark. She has been taken by Scavengers, who cut up their victims and sell their implants. The job starts in Japantown and ends back in V's apartment in Megabuilding H10.

Story

The Job

Six months have passed since V and Jackie first met. They sit in V's car and go over the job they were hired for. Wakako Okada got an SOS call from one of her clients, Sandra Dorsett. All the signs point to Sandra being snatched off the street by Scavengers. The journal calls them people who carve others up and sell their implants on the black market, and Jackie thinks it is time to pay them a visit.

The netrunner T-Bug joins the job from the net. She traces Sandra to a Scavenger den in an apartment block, unlocks the main door and switches off the security system.

The Scavenger Den

Inside, the den is grim. One room holds the body of a woman packed with implants on a table. V and Jackie work their way through the rooms, taking down Scavengers one by one. A larger group fills the main room, and their leader waits in the room beyond.

In a bathroom at the far end, they find Sandra Dorsett in a bathtub full of ice next to a dead man. She is still alive but failing. V keeps her going with an injection when she starts to flatline. A jammer in her body has blocked the alarm of her Trauma Team platinum plan. Once it is pulled out, Trauma Team is on its way.

Trauma Team

V carries Sandra out to the balcony. A Trauma Team flying car lands, and the medics take her away on a stretcher. V calls Wakako to report the job done, and she warns that the NCPD is locking down the district.

The Ride Home

On the drive back to Watson, a van full of Scavengers ambushes the car. V fights them off from the passenger seat until the van crashes. The pair then reach an NCPD roadblock at the edge of Watson, and Jackie talks an officer into letting them through. Further on, they watch gangers try to hijack a vehicle, only for a MaxTac team to wipe them out in seconds.

Jackie drops V off at Megabuilding H10 and leaves to see his girlfriend. V heads up to the apartment, can check the weapon stash, and goes to bed, which ends the job.

The Apartment Block

  1. Accept or skip the training in Practice Makes Perfect.
  2. Leave the car and follow Jackie to the lift.
  3. Ride the lift with Jackie and listen to T-Bug's briefing.
  4. Leave the lift, head straight to the apartment door and hack it.

The Den

  1. Follow Jackie inside and examine the woman's body in the first rooms. She is not the target.
  2. Go to the next room, crouch and sneak up to the Scavenger there. Kill him or knock him out, then hide the body in the freezer.
  3. Go past the black curtain and hide beside Jackie until two Scavengers walk by.
  4. Take down the Scavenger closest to V when Jackie gives the word. Jackie deals with the other one.
  5. Turn back and left and take down the Scavenger in the coat.
  6. Crouch, turn right and go to the end of the room to take down the Scavenger leaning on the lockers.
  7. Crouch through the small gap on the right to reach the Scavenger leader.
  8. Hack the industrial shutters to distract him, then take him down from behind.

Sandra Dorsett

  1. Follow Jackie to the bathroom and examine the bodies in the bathtub.
  2. Jack into Sandra's biomonitor and pull the shard that blocks her alarm.
  3. Save Sandra with an injection when she starts to flatline.
  4. Pick Sandra up and carry her to the terrace.
  5. Wait for Trauma Team, then place Sandra on the stretcher.
  6. Wait for the team to leave, then talk to Jackie.

The Ride Home

  1. Take the lift down and call Wakako Okada.
  2. Get into the passenger seat and ride back with Jackie.
  3. Shoot the Scavengers in the van that ambushes the car. Two fire from the back doors, one from a side door and one drives.
  4. Let Jackie talk to the officer at the NCPD roadblock.
  5. Get out of the car at Megabuilding H10 and go home.
  6. Check the weapon stash if desired, then go to bed.

Choices

The first Scavenger can be killed or knocked out, and most of the den can be cleared by stealth or in a straight fight. The leader can be taken from behind after hacking the shutters, or fought head on. Jackie can be persuaded to talk his way past the police at the roadblock. The ride home ends the same way whether or not every Scavenger in the van is shot, because the van crashes either way.

Rewards

Completing The Rescue pays 1,460 experience and 1,167 Street Cred.

The job gives experience and Street Cred. At its end, two side jobs open: The Gig, from a call to Wakako Okada, and The Gift, which starts back at the apartment.

Tips

Opening the photo mode just before hitting the ground cancels all fall damage. The den is a good place to practise the stealth lesson from Practice Makes Perfect.
