The Red Branch Shortbow is a Light Bow in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Altus Plateau, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

Same 2.5 weight and same Barrage as the Shortbow, but D Dex scaling instead of E, at the cost of 16 Dex. Lists both at 159 max, so what you are buying is scaling shape for a high-Dex build, not raw attack rating (AR).

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at E and Dex at D, so Dex is the stat worth levelling, and you need Str 8 and Dex 16 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling.
