Dragon Bone is a crafting material in Skyrim, left behind by every dragon you kill. It is not mined and not smelted; it goes straight from the corpse to the forge.
Where It Comes From
Every dragon killed in the world leaves bones and scales where it burns away. That makes the supply a question of how many dragons you have fought rather than how much you have mined, which is why the material sits behind a level 100 perk: by the time you can use it, you have usually accumulated plenty.
It is heavy. A full set's worth is a serious carry-weight problem on the way back to a forge.
Used By
Both need the Dragon Armor perk.
| Item | Note |
|---|---|
| Dragonplate armour | Heavy |
| Dragonbone weapons | Dawnguard add-on |
Not Smelted
Dragon Bone never goes near a smelter. Neither does Dragon Scales, the light armour counterpart, or Daedra Heart. All three are used in the state they are found.
