Yggdrasil Wood, Seeker shell and the mandible of a Seeker Soldier go into the Carapace Spear, the throwing weapon of the Mistlands. It deals 115 pierce damage. At 115 total damage it ranks 5th among spears, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts the Tick and the Troll more than most things, which is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 10x Yggdrasil Wood, chopped from Yggdrasil Shoots in the Mistlands.
- 4x Carapace, dropped by Seekers and Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 2x Mandible, dropped by Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
| Name | Image | Biome | Crafting Station | Spawn ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yggdrasil Wood | Mistlands | - | spawn YggdrasilWood

| Carapace | Mistlands | - | spawn Carapace

| Mandible | Mistlands | - | spawn Mandible
|
When to Use It
It is a mid-game weapon. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this one.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Pierce | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 115 | 100 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 121 | 150 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 127 | 200 |
|
| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | 133 | 250 |
|
Properties
It deals 115 pierce from a level 1 Black Forge, so it is available as soon as the station is, and it is a large jump from the 75 of the Fang Spear.
But pierce is what a Seeker resists. Every Seeker shrugs off blunt, pierce and slash alike, so in the very biome that crafts it, the spear works against the grain. It is a weapon for the Tick and the Dvergr rather than for Seekers.
The secondary attack throws it for 1.5x damage, and you get it back. The whole cycle, pick-up included, takes about a second. A thrown spear also floats, so one aimed at a Serpent from a boat can be recovered rather than lost to the sea.
Notes
- The throw's 1.04 seconds includes picking the spear back up, so the listed speed covers the whole cycle, not just the release.
- Thrown spears float, so one thrown at a Serpent can be recovered rather than lost to the sea.
- The primary moves you forward 0.33 m, the least of any melee class, so it does not walk you into a second enemy.
