The Seeker Soldier is all front armour. It is the wingless heavy of the Mistlands hive, a stag beetle the size of a cart, and the mist usually reveals it at about fifteen paces with no warning. Players who have just fought through a swarm of ordinary Seekers tend to swing at this one the same way, watch half their damage vanish into its plating, and learn fast that this fight is about angles, not numbers.

Behaviour

Without wings, and unable to burrow, it simply walks, and that walk is more purposeful than it looks: once it has you, it does not lose you and it never flees. Three attacks make up the whole fight. The ram is a charging tackle for 100 blunt that closes ten metres in a heartbeat and ploughs the ground flat behind it, on an eight-second cooldown. The bite is a close-range pincer snap for 100 slash, also on eight seconds. The ground slam is the one that kills: it rears up and brings the strike down twice in a row for 120 blunt per hit, on a twelve-second cooldown, and it will follow you through a roll if you dodge too early. The ram and the slam both carry heavy chop and pickaxe damage. That does nothing to you, but it tears apart terrain, trees and anything you have hastily built, so the rock outcrop you climbed for safety will be gone within ten seconds. It does not call for help, but it rarely fights alone: it spawns near structures that ordinary Seekers patrol, and they join in the moment the noise starts. Its stagger threshold is low for something this size, around thirty per cent, so steady damage does interrupt it. The plated shell also hides one soft spot: the abdomen at the rear takes half again as much damage from everything that hurts it at all.

Where to Find It

It lives only in the Mistlands. In the open middle of the biome it is a very rare wandering spawn, limited to one at a time, so most players never run into one by chance. Far more often it stands guard alone among the Mistlands structures, the broken Dvergr towers and petrified bones that dot the ridges, already awake and facing your approach. It also turns up, very rarely, deep inside Infested Mines. That is the worst place to meet one, because the corridors leave you no room to circle. Time of day makes no difference to it, and the mist hides it either way. Wild spawns can have stars: one star doubles it to 3000 health and two stars take it to 4500, with damage scaling to match. Nothing formally gates it beyond reaching the biome, but the Mistlands sits behind a sea crossing and a wisp light, and anyone arriving in iron gear will be outclassed.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Get behind it. The armoured front and flanks halve every physical weapon you own, while the abdomen at the rear takes fifty per cent more from the same swing, so positioning alone decides whether the fight is hopeless or short. Elemental damage is not reduced anywhere on its body, which makes fire, frost and lightning the honest answer if you fight from range or with a staff, and on the abdomen they get the bonus too. Do not try to parry it: the ram and the double slam hit far too hard, and a missed timing means a corpse run. Roll late through the charge, let it overshoot, and get two swings on its back before it turns. It ignores chop and pickaxe damage, so axes and picks are wasted, and poison is wasted too because it is slow to matter. Fight it on flat open ground you do not mind losing, never on a ledge or a platform, because its attacks wreck the ground itself. In full carapace or Black Metal with good food it is a manageable duel; in anything less, shoot it from a distance and keep moving.

  • It resists Blunt, Slash and Pierce damage.
  • It is immune to Spirit damage.

Drops

The mandible is what you came for. It also drops a heavy stack of carapace, and a trophy on roughly one kill in twenty.

Level Variants

A creature can spawn at one of three levels, shown as stars beside its name. Each level is rolled separately at spawn, so a two-star is rarer than a one-star. The difference is not only in the numbers: a starred Seeker Soldier is recoloured or larger, so you can see it coming.
