Every base ends up lined with them. The Chest is the plain lidded box at the head of the Storage tab, made from ten planks of Wood and nothing more. It holds a modest grid of stacks, takes no harm from rain, and asks nothing of you once it is down.
How to Build It
It costs ten Wood and needs a Workbench in range, which makes it the first storage most players build and the cheapest to replace. Rain does not damage it, so an outdoor row along a dock or a portal hub keeps perfectly well. The thing worth knowing is that a destroyed chest spills its contents onto the ground rather than swallowing them. That saves your ore after a raid, but leaves a miserable pile to sort through.
