Iron bands over finewood boards turn a box into a strongroom. The Reinforced chest is the middle rung of the Storage tab, with twenty four slots against the handful in a plain chest, for two bars of iron. That is enough room to hold a whole mining trip in one place, and it is usually the point where a base stops lining its walls with wooden boxes.
How to Build It
Each chest costs ten finewood and two iron, built within range of a workbench. The iron is a gate rather than an expense: you need a Swamp crypt and a smelter before the first one goes up. At two bars apiece it is cheap enough that most players replace every wooden box in the house at once. Rain does it no harm, so a row of them out on a dock or beside a portal hub lasts just as well as one indoors.
