The Splitnir is a spear in Valheim, dealing 135 pierce. At 135 total damage it is 2nd of the 10 spears, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts Tick and Troll more than most things, which is what to carry it for.

How to Craft

Crafted at Black forge, station level 3.
Costs 10x Ashwood, 6x Flametal, 2x Asksvin hide, 3x Bonemaw tooth at quality 1.
Materials can be found in the Ashlands biome.

When to Use It

Late game. Flametal is in the Ashlands, the furthest south the map goes and, until 1.0, the hardest biome in the game.

Upgrades

Properties

135 pierce, the most in the class. One hand, so the shield and the parry stay, and still the fastest primary in the game.

Fit the gemstone first. Upgrading a Splitnir into a variant always returns a quality 1 weapon whatever the original was, so a ladder climbed before the gem is a ladder paid twice. The 3 are Bleeding (Bloodstone), Storming (Iolite) and Primal (Jade).

The secondary throws it for 1.5x, and you get it back. The whole cycle including the pick-up is about a second, and a thrown spear floats, so one aimed at a Serpent from a boat is recoverable rather than lost to the sea.

Notes

The throw's 1.04 seconds includes picking the spear back up, so the listed speed is the whole cycle rather than the release.
Thrown spears float, so one thrown at a Serpent is recoverable rather than lost to the sea.
The primary moves the player forward 0.33 m, the least of any melee class, so it does not walk you into a second enemy.
