Malenia, Blade of Miquella is a legendary boss in Elden Ring.

Malenia, Blade of Miquella is Miquella's twin sister, a swordswoman who has never known defeat. She waits at the roots of Miquella's Haligtree, beyond Elphael. She heals with every hit she lands and strikes in a blur with her Waterfowl Dance. When her first health bar falls, she blooms into the Goddess of Rot and fills the arena with scarlet rot.

Lore

Malenia is a slender warrior in a winged helm. The scarlet rot cost her several limbs, and she fights on golden prostheses. She wields a long, thin katana. In her second form, wings spread from her back as the scarlet flower blooms.

Malenia was the daughter of Queen Marika and Radagon, and twin of Miquella. Both were Empyreans, yet both were born afflicted. Miquella was cursed with eternal childhood, and Malenia harbored scarlet rot within her.

A blind swordsman who had sealed away an outer god of rot trained Malenia in the blade. She became a warrior without peer. In her battle with Radahn during the Shattering she let the scarlet rot bloom, and Caelid was left in ruin.

Phases

Phase 1: Malenia fights with fast katana combos, Waterfowl Dance and a dash of phantom blades, healing on every hit.
Phase 2: after her first health bar falls she becomes Malenia, Goddess of Rot, heals most of her health and adds Scarlet Aeonia.

Attacks

Waterfowl Dance: she leaps and unleashes three flurries of slashes. Running away from the first flurry and rolling through the later ones avoids it.
Lifesteal combos: every hit, even a blocked one, heals her. Avoiding hits matters more than blocking.
Phantom spirits: she dashes with phantom copies that strike in turn. Rolling in time with each phantom avoids them.
Scarlet Aeonia: in phase two she soars and crashes down, blooming a giant flower of rot. Running far from the bloom avoids the rot.
Thrusts and slashes: quick strikes that punish greedy attacks. Dodging and countering after each string works best.

Tactics

Stack physical damage negation, since she deals only physical damage.
Summon a spirit that staggers her from range, such as Redmane Knight Ogha or Black Knife Tiche.
Avoid tanky spirits that she can heal from.
Learn Waterfowl Dance first, because it can kill in one use.
Use frost or bleed to outpace her healing and to stop Waterfowl Dance.
Break her low stance for critical hits, especially in phase one.
In phase two, run from Scarlet Aeonia and cure scarlet rot quickly.

Rivers of Blood inflicts bleed with fire damage, and Corpse Piler helps outpace her healing.
