Caelid is a wasteland in the south-east of the Lands Between, east of Limgrave. Scarlet Rot stains its sky red and poisons its soil and creatures. Giant bones and burning walls scar the land. Radahn's Redmane army still fights the rot with fire. Most runs reach Caelid in the middle of the game, though an early visit is possible.

Lore
Caelid was the field of the last great battle of the Shattering. General Radahn of the Redmanes fought Malenia, Blade of Miquella, in the Swamp of Aeonia. The two fought to a standstill. Then Malenia let loose her Scarlet Rot, and the first flower of Aeonia bloomed. The rot spread across all of Caelid.
Radahn survived, but the rot ate away his mind. He now wanders the Wailing Dunes on the eastern coast, eating the dead. His army still holds Redmane Castle and Fort Gael. They burn the land to hold the rot back. The Radahn Festival was called so that great warriors might grant him an honorable death.
Sellia, Town of Sorcery, stands on the eastern bank of the swamp. Its sorcerers were famed assassins, and Lusat, one of the first glintstone sorcerers, came from there. In his youth Radahn studied gravity sorcery in Sellia. He later held back the stars themselves. The dragons that escaped the rot fled north to the plateau of Dragonbarrow.
Geography
The main road enters Caelid from Limgrave past the Smoldering Church and the Shack of the Rotting. The Caelem Ruins and the Minor Erdtree (Caelid) lie just beyond. The Gael Tunnel and Fort Gael guard the west, with the Gaol Cave in the rot lake below the fort. The Forsaken Ruins lie at the foot of the cliffs below the Rotview Balcony.
The road south-east passes the Caelid Waypoint Ruins to the Impassable Greatbridge and Redmane Castle on the southern coast. The Cathedral of Dragon Communion stands at the end of the southern road, with the Caelid Catacombs below it. The Swamp of Aeonia fills the middle of the region. The Street of Sages Ruins lie at its northern edge, and Sellia rises on its eastern bank. Gowry's Shack and the Sellia Gateway lead into the town. The Church of the Plague sits on the cliffs beyond.
A deep ravine in the north holds the Deep Siofra Well and the Caelid Colosseum. The Abandoned Cave faces the ravine from the east. The Wailing Dunes stretch along the eastern coast, reached through Redmane Castle during the festival. Dragonbarrow rises north of Caelid and is reached by jumping a chasm east of the Caelem Ruins.
Sellia hides many secrets. Seals guard several of its buildings. Lighting the braziers atop its towers breaks them and opens the Chair-Crypt of Sellia. The forbidden sorcery Eternal Darkness waits in the Swamp Lookout Tower beyond the town. Sage Gowry, who lives in a shack outside the gate, knows the town's secrets and seeks a needle to save his daughter Millicent.
The Radahn Festival changes Redmane Castle. Once the Altus Plateau is reached, or Ranni's quest moves on, champions gather at the castle. Witch-Hunter Jerren calls the festival from the plaza. A waygate then carries the Tarnished to the Wailing Dunes to face Radahn alongside summoned allies. After his fall, a star crashes into Limgrave and opens the way to Nokron.
