Man-Serpent's Shield is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. It becomes available partway through a run, in Volcano Manor.

The Man-Serpent's Shield is a small copper dome-shaped roundshield carried by the man-serpents of Mt. Gelmir, said to have been tempered in lava and boasting great fire resistance. Shield-wielding Man-Serpents in Volcano Manor drop it at a 4% rate, and one patrols behind the building at the Guest Hall Site of Grace for quick farming runs. It weighs 2 and accepts Ashes of War, and it suits a light build that wants better fire guarding from a small shield.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 48, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 52. Only three small shields guard better, topping out at 51. It lets 15% of physical damage through, and against the elements it holds up best to fire, at 48%, and worst to lightning, at 18%. If a block empties the stamina bar, the guard breaks and a critical hit can follow.

Build

A light off-hand shield for an agile build, used to parry melee attacks and punish the opening with a critical hit, and to block when a parry is not possible.

Stats	Strength 8 to wield it, Vigor 40 then 60, Endurance 20 to 30 for the stamina to hold a guard, with the main weapon's stats taking the rest
Affinity	Standard keeps its full guard values, since an affinity changes a shield's damage negation while guarding.
Ash of War	Parry or Golden Parry for parries that open enemies to critical hits, or No Skill, its default, to keep the main weapon's skill usable while guarding.
Talismans	Curved Sword Talisman, Greatshield Talisman, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, Pearl Shield Talisman
