The Shield of Night is a Small Shield in Elden Ring. It is part of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The Shield of Night was awarded to the Swordhands of Night, cast in a bottomless black from which no light escapes, with a semicorporeal surface that defends reliably against attacks that are not physical. It lies on a corpse on a ledge at the top level of Bonny Gaol, reached by staying on the jar elevator as it rises again. Its guard boost and physical defense are modest, but it scales with Dexterity and carries both physical and magic attack power. Its unique skill, Revenge of the Night, fires a magic projectile for little FP, and used right after blocking a projectile or melee attack it absorbs the blow and fires a far stronger shot back, much like a block counter. It suits a Dexterity build paired with the Sword of Night.

How to Get Shield of Night Guide

Found on a corpse within Bonny Gaol.
Before the bridge leading to the drop down to the boss room, there is a jar elevator that leads up to a ledge where the shield can be found inside a broken cell.

Skill

Revenge of the Night costs 5 / 15 FP. The wielder thrusts the shield forward to fire a pitch-black orb of magic. Used right after blocking an attack, the shield absorbs the force of the blow and fires a far stronger orb, roughly three times as damaging. The magic damage scales with Dexterity rather than Intelligence. It is exclusive to this weapon.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 43, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 57. It lets 26% of physical damage through, and against the elements it holds up best to magic, at 70%, and worst to fire, at 45%. If a block empties the stamina bar, the guard breaks and a critical hit can follow.

Build

Blocks projectiles, spells and melee hits, then answers at once with an empowered Revenge of the Night, while the main weapon handles close range.
