The Keening is a unique, one-handed weapon in The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. This Short Blade was crafted by the Dwemer Tonal Architect Lord Kagrenac. Together with the other unique artifacts Sunder and Sunder (added in the Creation Club Content), these tools are necessary to handle the Heart of Lorkhan.
Weapon Enchantment
Keenings unique enchantment absorbs health, stamina and drains the targets magicka transferring it to the weapons user. This makes the weapon excellent for restoring resources during combat. You cannot apply an additional enchantment to this dagger.

How to Get Keening Guide
How to get Keening Location
To find Keening you must start the quest Arniel's Endeavor.
- You can start the quest by talking to Arniel Gane located in the College of Winterhold in northern Skyrim.
- You will obtain Keening during the quest. The quest is quite a long one but the reward of a very powerful unique dagger is worth it.
Gameplay Tips
- Keenings unique enchantment 'Keening's Sting; absorbs 10 points of health, magicka and stamina on hit. But since Keening only has 0 charge you can only use the weapons enchantment once before it runs out of charge. The intention was that Keening had an unlimited enchantment effect (this is fixed in the Unofficial Skyrim Patch Mod, which makes Keenings enchantment infinite).
- Its possible to get unlimited weapon charges on Keening by equipping four items with a 25% Fortify Destruction effect for a total of 100% reduction.
- Before completing the quest Arniel's Endeavor, Keening has a unique enchantment called "Mortal Wound," which lowers the users maximum health, stamina and magicka by 5 points while it is equipped.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
Keening is not a leveled weapon.
