The Carapace Buckler is small on purpose: Seeker shell and Refined Eitr shaped into a parrying shield rather than a wall, for players who would rather stagger a Mistlands charge than stand behind it. It has 78 block armour, which becomes 195 on a parry thanks to its 2.5x bonus.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 16x Carapace, dropped by Seekers and Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 3x Scale Hide, dropped by Hares in the Mistlands.
- 10x Refined Eitr, refined from Sap and Soft Tissue at an Eitr Refinery.

When to Use It
It is a mid-game shield. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this one.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Block armor | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 78 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 84 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 90 | 300 |

| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | - | - |

Properties
It has the highest parry block armour of any shield in the game. Its 78 becomes 195 on a parry at 2.5x, which is more than the Flametal Tower Shield blocks for, even with a whole biome's advantage.
The 2.5x parry bonus is the whole point. It multiplies the shield's block armour on a successful parry, and a parry costs no stamina at all, where a block costs up to 10. A parrying buckler beats a tower shield of the same tier even when that tower shield is simply blocking.
It needs a level 1 Black Forge, so it is available as soon as the station is. That makes it the first serious Mistlands defence, and a reason to learn the parry window properly.
Notes
- A block uses up to 10 stamina, in proportion to the damage that got through. It fails if that leftover damage fills your stagger bar (40% of maximum health) or if you do not have the stamina.
- Block force is the knockback dealt back to a melee attacker. It scales from 50% to 100% with the block armour actually used.
- Weapon types have their own parry bonuses too: 4x on a knife and 6x on Flesh Rippers. Both beat every shield, but only on the weapon's own small block armour.
