You cannot chop or mine Sap with an axe or a pickaxe. It takes a Sap Extractor clamped onto one of the ancient roots running through the Mistlands, and before you can build one you have to prise the extractor part off a dvergr structure.
How to Get It
A Sap Extractor is built from Yggdrasil Wood, Black Metal and a Dvergr Extractor taken from a dvergr installation, so you also need a Black Metal Axe to chop the Yggdrasil shoots. Place it on an ancient root with a Workbench in range and it fills by itself, glowing green when there is sap waiting. Roots refill far more slowly than an extractor drains them, so spread several extractors across different roots rather than standing over one. Sap can go through portals, which makes a small Mistlands outpost worth holding.
Sap Crafting Recipes
Once it leaves the extractor, Sap mostly goes into food and drink, along with the refining step that makes it matter.
Sap Building Elements
Only one build piece takes sap: the station that refines it.
