Where the buckler parries, the Carapace Shield stands still and takes the blow. It is built from the same Seeker shell and Refined Eitr at the Mistlands Black Forge, and it has 96 block armour.
How to Craft
It is made at a level 1 Black Forge from:
- 20x Carapace, dropped by Seekers and Seeker Soldiers in the Mistlands.
- 3x Scale Hide, dropped by Hares in the Mistlands.
- 10x Refined Eitr, refined from Sap and Soft Tissue at an Eitr Refinery.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carapace | Mistlands | - | spawn Carapace

| Scale Hide | Mistlands | - | spawn ScaleHide

| Refined Eitr | Mistlands | Eitr Refinery | spawn Eitr

When to Use It
It is a mid-game shield. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this one.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station one level higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows the full upgrade path your own copy is on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Block armor | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 96 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 102 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 108 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | - | - |

Properties
This is the middle option, and the one that parries. It has less raw block armour than the tower shield of its tier, but a round shield can parry, and a parry staggers the attacker into taking double damage for as long as the stagger lasts.
Its 96 armour and 60 block force are both higher than the Carapace Buckler, at the cost of the buckler's much larger parry. Take this one if you block more than you parry.
Like the buckler, it needs a level 1 Black Forge, so you can choose between them straight away.
Notes
- A block uses up to 10 stamina, in proportion to the damage that got through. It fails if that leftover damage fills your stagger bar (40% of maximum health) or if you do not have the stamina.
- Block force is the knockback dealt back to a melee attacker. It scales from 50% to 100% with the block armour actually used.
- Weapon types have their own parry bonuses too: 4x on a knife and 6x on Flesh Rippers. Both beat every shield, but only on the weapon's own small block armour.
