The Howling Cavern is a Mountain dungeon and the lair of the miniboss Geirrhafa, who drops Hildir's Silver Chest. It is guarded by large numbers of Ulvs and Bats.

Where to Find It

Each world has 3 Howling Caverns, spaced at least 2,000 metres apart. They spawn between 1,000 and 8,000 metres from the world centre, at an altitude of 200 metres or higher, in zones that are entirely Mountain. You can add their locations to your map from the map table in front of Hildir. The entrance is a spiky ice formation, with large blue icicles hanging from the roof of the cave mouth.

What's Inside

The interior is randomly generated from 10 to 64 rooms. Inside you find chests, glowing Crystal formations, Fenris Hair, Fenris Claws, meat piles and 2 braziers that drop Bronze or Coal when you break them. Treasure piles sit on pillars in the shrine corridors and end rooms, and each holds a Fenris Hair or a Fenris Claw with equal odds. The shrine room has up to 10 hair strands. Some end rooms hold a Howling Cavern Chest, each with a 66% chance to spawn. Geirrhafa looks like a Cultist with white fur and a black cloak with red tints.

Notes

Hildir's Silver Chest weighs 200, and you return it to Hildir to unlock more of her trades. You can carry it through a Portal Stone.
Defeating Geirrhafa unlocks an event in which he and his minions raid your base.
You can place a Campfire and a Cooking Station inside so you can rest.
