You buy the Iron Pit rather than build it. It comes from Hildir's stall at her camp in the Meadows, a cast shell waiting for firewood and kindling.

How to Get It

Hildir pitches her camp far out in the Meadows, well away from the centre of the world, inside a warded ring of wagon and tents that nothing hostile can enter, and a shirt marks her on the map once you are close. She takes coins for the pit, so the real cost is whatever silver and treasure you have already turned into coin. It counts as metal and cannot go through a plain portal, so sail it home or fit the portal with a portal stone.
