Staff of Frost is made at the Galdr Table from Freeze Glands carried down from the Mountain, Yggdrasil Wood and Refined Eitr. It deals 30 frost. At 30 total damage it ranks 4th among magic staves, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Frost damage hurts Blobs, Bonemass and Oozers more than most things, which is what you carry it for.
How to Craft
Made at a level 1 galdr table, from:
- 20x Yggdrasil Wood: Chopped from Yggdrasil shoots in the Mistlands.
- 4x Freeze Gland: Dropped by drakes in the Mountain.
- 16x Refined Eitr: Refined from sap and soft tissue at an eitr refinery.

When to Use It
Mid game. It needs Mistlands materials and a Galdr Table rather than the Black Forge that makes Mistlands weapons, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing beyond him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie past this point.
Upgrades
It can be upgraded 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. Every other figure on this page is for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Frost | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Galdr table (Level 1) | 30 | 200 |
|
| 2 | Galdr table (Level 2) | 32 | 250 |
|
| 3 | Galdr table (Level 3) | 34 | 300 |
|
| 4 | Galdr table (Level 4) | 36 | 350 |

Properties
It is inaccurate by design. It sprays freezing shards quickly and loosely, so its effective range is short. What redeems it is that everything it hits is slowed by Frost, which cuts movement and turn speed.
So it holds a swarm off rather than killing it fast. Small, quick things a fireball would miss get hit again and again and kept at arm's length, which is exactly the Tick and Seeker Brood problem in the Mistlands.
Damage and cost both scale with Elemental Magic. The figures in the table are the floor: the skill raises the damage and lowers the cost, so the same staff is a different weapon at skill 80.
Notes
- The head always glows light blue and raises your visibility while sneaking by about 20%. Magic weapons have no secondary attack.
