Control

Cripple Movement

Control quickhacks take an enemy out of the fight without killing it. They blind, jam weapons, lock legs in place or shut down cyberware. The disabled enemy then becomes an easy target for guns, blades or Combat quickhacks. Their RAM cost runs from low to medium. Control quickhacks suit a hybrid build that hacks first and finishes with a weapon, and they are strong against bosses who rely on their implants.

Effects

Each Control quickhack shuts down one part of an enemy. Together they cover sight, weapons, movement and cyberware.

Reboot Optics resets an enemy's detection progress outside combat. In combat it lowers the enemy's accuracy. At Tier 3 headshots and weakspot hits deal more damage to the affected enemy. At Tier 4 it blinds the enemy for the whole duration. At Tier 5, a headshot or weakspot kill restores RAM and spreads Reboot Optics to the nearest enemy.

Weapon Glitch jams the target's weapon for a while. It also lowers accuracy and turns off Smart targeting and shots through cover. At Tier 3, locking a Smart weapon onto the target keeps the glitch running until the lock ends. At Tier 4 the primary weapon explodes, and the glitch moves to the enemy's backup weapon. At Tier 5 each upload adds Crit Chance with Smart weapons.

Cripple Movement stops an enemy from moving. It also disables the cyberware that helps the enemy move and dodge. At Tier 3, melee attacks deal more damage to the affected enemy. At Tier 4 the enemy is more open to Finishers. At Tier 5, a Finisher on the enemy restores Health and RAM.

Cyberware Malfunction disables enemy cyberware and makes the enemy take more damage from every source. It stacks several times. At Tier 3, two stacks disable the cyberware for good. At Tier 4, three stacks add Electrical damage over time. At Tier 5, full stacks overload the cyberware for massive damage.

Control quickhacks set up the rest of the kit. Short Circuit deals more damage for each stack of Cyberware Malfunction. Sonic Shock knocks out an enemy who already carries Memory Wipe and Reboot Optics. Opportunist, a Reflexes perk, makes blinded enemies more open to Finishers.

Pros

  • Control quickhacks disable an enemy without needing to kill it.
  • Cyberware Malfunction weakens bosses and mini-bosses who rely on their implants.
  • Weapon Glitch and Reboot Optics cut enemy accuracy, which lowers incoming damage.
  • Cripple Movement and Reboot Optics set up melee Finishers.

Cons

  • Control quickhacks are traceable, so enemy netrunners can follow them back to V.
  • Their effects end with the duration, so the follow-up attack has to come quickly.
  • Cyberware Malfunction cannot be uploaded to the same enemy again once its Tier 5 overload goes off.

Character Builds

Control quickhacks belong to an Intelligence build, often with a weapon attribute beside it.

  • Subordination doubles the duration of Control quickhacks on enemies at full Health.
  • Eye In The Sky makes Control and Covert quickhacks sent through cameras cheaper and longer.
  • Embedded Exploit raises quickhack damage against enemies affected by Control quickhacks.
  • Icepick lowers the RAM cost of Combat quickhacks on enemies affected by Control quickhacks.
  • Queue Hack Root cuts the RAM cost of the first quickhack of each new category in a queue.
  • Encryption lowers the traceability of all quickhacks.

The Tetratronic Rippler is the cyberdeck for this style. It rewards the quickhacks that blind, distract or disable, and enemies hit by them take more damage from V's weapons. At Tier 5 it uploads Reboot Optics and Weapon Glitch to every nearby enemy when Overclock starts. The Monowire also carries a quickhack slot of its own, which suits a hybrid of hacking and wire attacks.

Smart weapons pair well with Weapon Glitch and Reboot Optics. A melee build pairs with Cripple Movement and its Finisher bonuses.

Notes

  • Iconic variants double one tier bonus, such as the Tier 5 Finisher reward of Cripple Movement.
  • Short Circuit at Tier 2 extends every Control quickhack already on the target.
