The Monowire is a cutting wire that V swings like a whip. It reaches further than any other melee weapon, and a single sweep can hit several enemies at once. Its hits deal Physical damage and can cause Bleeding. The standard Monowire grows stronger with Intelligence, which makes it the classic close-range weapon for a netrunner. With Phantom Liberty, it can even carry a quickhack and upload it with a strike. The Monowire is an early to mid game implant that ripperdocs sell from level 10, and it stays useful to the end through tier upgrades.
Effect
The Monowire replaces a normal melee weapon with a long, whip-like wire. Its range is the longest of any melee weapon in the game. Wide swings can hit several enemies at the same time, which helps against groups. In exchange, each hit deals less damage than the Mantis Blades or Gorilla Arms, and attacks are a little slower.
Every hit deals Physical damage and has a chance to cause Bleeding. The Bleeding chance rises with the tier.
The Monowire is attuned to Intelligence. Each point of Intelligence adds 0.5% damage with the wire. The Electrifying, Thermal and Toxic variants change the damage type and the attribute. All four share the same attack speed and Stamina cost.
The implant shows an empty quickhack slot. The Relic perk Jailbreak puts that slot to use.
How to Get Monowire Guide
- Reach level 10.
- Visit any ripperdoc clinic and open the Arms slot.
- Buy and install the Monowire.

Upgrades
Ripperdocs sell the Monowire at Tier 2 from level 10, Tier 3 from level 20, Tier 4 from level 30 and Tier 5 from level 40. An installed Monowire can be raised a tier at a ripperdoc with the matching item components. Each tier raises the damage and the Bleeding chance. Each implant costs Cyberware Capacity. V gains capacity with each level and from Cyberware Capacity Shards. The Edgerunner perk lets V go over the limit by up to 50 points, at the cost of some max Health.
The table shows what each tier step of Monowire costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 2 to Tier 2+ | 75 Tier 2 components | - |
| Tier 2+ to Tier 3 | 37 Tier 3 components | - |

| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 37 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 75 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 200 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
The Monowire belongs in an Intelligence build with a cyberdeck. Siphon makes every Monowire attack recover RAM. The amount doubles when the target is affected by a quickhack or targeted by one. That turns the wire into a way to refill RAM between hacks. Finisher: Live Wire unlocks a Monowire Finisher on low Health enemies. The more quickhacks are queued on the target, the easier the Finisher becomes. It restores Health and RAM.
Phantom Liberty adds Relic perks for arm cyberware. Songbird unlocks the Relic tree during the story, and Jailbreak costs three Relic points. Jailbreak gives the Monowire a dedicated slot for a Control quickhack. V charges the wire, and a fully charged attack uploads the installed quickhack without paying its RAM cost. Data Tunneling builds on this. When an enemy carries a quickhack uploaded through the Monowire, normal Monowire hits that strike that enemy and others at once spread the quickhack to them.
Queue perks such as Hack Queue work well alongside the wire, since Live Wire rewards queued quickhacks. Memory Boost restores RAM on each kill, and Camillo RAM Manager refills RAM when the pool runs low.
Select a Build
The Monowire whips several enemies at once from a short distance, and quickhacks are uploaded between attacks. Intelligence perks give the Monowire more damage and return RAM on hits. Overclock spends Health in place of RAM when a fight drags on.

Lore
The in-game description calls the Monowire a whip-like monofilament wire. Its cutting edge is only a molecule wide.
Notes
- The Jailbreak quickhack slot takes Control quickhacks only.
- The Arms slot holds one implant, so the Monowire replaces any Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms or Projectile Launch System.
- The Electrifying, Thermal and Toxic Monowire are the same wire with Electrical, Thermal and Chemical damage.
