Trophy Fell Dragon Youngling Head
Flame 8

The Fell Dragon Youngling is a unique boss of Enshrouded, found only on Howling Peak at the top of the Albaneve Summits. It ends the quest Slaying The Corrupted Beast, and its head pays for Flame level 8.

Fell Dragon Youngling Location

Take Slaying The Corrupted Beast from The Flame after Ignite The Coldest Elixir Well (Flame level 7). Light all 8 balefires that circle the inner mountain, starting at Balefire Garrison 'Silkfrost'; each balefire tower can be seen from the last, and the final one is high on the mountain at Everfrore Keep. Then climb Howling Peak, best reached through Everfrore Keep: a cave entrance on the south-west side leads up, scaffolding can be grappled, and a long jump with a skeleton and a hint carries you on an updraft to the arena. The peak is in the north-east of the map.

Abilities

Ability Effect Counter
Fell Fire Meteors Spins and throws a ring of burning meteors over the platform; the impact spots keep burning. Stand in line with a meteor and the dragon and block just before it hits to parry it back; each one fills about a third of the stun bar. A real shield parries more reliably than Eternal Ward. Step away from the burning impact spots.
Fell Fire Breath Rears its head back, then turns clockwise from the middle of the platform while breathing fire over the ring; the area is huge and getting caught stuns you while the fire keeps hitting. Glide under the dragon to the opposite side of the ring, or drop off the edge and ride an updraft back once the fire passes. Moving counter-clockwise keeps you ahead of it.
Fell Fire Strafe Rises, faces a direction and flies across or off the platform breathing fire along its path; the trail keeps burning. It uses this to move between the centre and the outside of the ring. It does not change course once it picks a direction; sidestep, sprint, double-dodge or glide out of the line.
Fire Beam From the outer edge of the ring, sweeps a flame beam at foot level from one side to the other; a hit stuns you and sets you on fire. Jump or double-jump over it as it passes. Dodge or blink out of the burn if hit.
Wing Beat Rises and beats its wings, sending a wave that shoves you away and can blow you off the ring. Jump just before the wave for extra height, then glide back to the ring on an updraft.
Summon Fell Draconian Vultures Calls Fell Draconian Vultures, mainly after it recovers from a stun. The vultures spit Shroud pellets and slash with heavy talon strikes. Kill the vultures first. Their talon swipe can be parried, and a few parries knock a vulture down stunned.
Stun Crash When the stun bar fills it crashes to the ground and lies there for a short damage window; landing knocks back anyone close. Back away from the spot where it will fall, then close in, get behind it and spend everything you have.

Resistances and Weaknesses

Weaknesses:

  • Filling its stun bar grounds it and opens it to full damage; Stun Arrows, Shock spells such as Chain Lightning and Eternal Chain Lightning, and parried meteors fill the bar.
  • Attacks to its back or head while it is grounded deal backstab or weak-point damage.

Resistances: Takes reduced damage whenever it is not stunned.

How to Beat the Fell Dragon Youngling

  1. Bring a bow and a big stack of Stun Arrows even on a melee or caster build; guides suggest 150 to 200 or more for a solo attempt. Multishot fires several stun arrows at once.
  2. Casters need a lightning staff for Chain Lightning, as a wand cannot reach the dragon in the air.
  3. Carry a one-handed weapon and a real shield to parry the meteors back.
  4. Have frost protection for Howling Peak; one guide advises +15 Frost Resistance, another at least five minutes of frost time.
  5. Stock health potions and bandages for the burn damage, mana potions for gliding skills, and Fell-damage food and elixirs.
  6. Useful skills: Updraft and Airborne to recover after a knockback, Double Jump for the fire beam, Emergency Blink to break out of its stuns, and Backstab Mastery for the grounded window. Updraft is also needed to reach some balefires.
  7. Place a Flame Altar near the summit to resurrect and rest close to the arena.
  8. Focus on filling the stun bar, not on damage, while it flies.
  9. Parry two meteors whenever it spins, then top up the stun bar with arrows or lightning.
  10. When it crashes, stay clear of the landing spot, then get behind it and unload damage for the 10 to 15 second window.
  11. After it gets up, kill the vultures, then repeat the stun cycle until it dies.
  12. If you catch fire, dodge or blink to put it out.
  13. Use the updrafts around the ring to dodge attacks and to recover after a fall; the deadly red Shroud below kills within seconds.
  14. The difficulty settings include boss-specific options for players who find the fight too hard.

Fell Dragon Youngling Head Fell Dragon Youngling Head 1x

The Fell Dragon Youngling Head is the boss item for strengthening the Flame from level 7 to level 8. Flame level 8 raises Shroud time to 12 minutes, the attribute bonus to 7 and the Shroud Passage Level to 8, and lets Flame Altars keep the cold out of your base. The same upgrade also takes 12 Survivors, 50 Spark, 50 Obsidian, 50 Silver Bars, 50 Mauveine, 50 Wolfsbane and 50 Amethyst. Flame level 8 is also needed to enter the Veilwater Basin.

Lore

The Flame calls it the corrupted beast that dwells inside Howling Peak; lighting the signal fires that ring the inner mountain wakes it and draws it out. Its head is enormously heavy, with shimmering, ice-cold scales. Its trophy describes it as a lonely soul brought down by the Shroud and set free by your blade.

Notes

  • Slaying The Corrupted Beast rewards a Fell Dragon Youngling Head and 150 XP; the quest text notes some of its attacks can be parried.
  • The fight has two bars: red health on top and a grey stun bar under it.
  • Players widely rate it the hardest fight in the game.
  • A Hunter crafts the Fell Dragon Youngling Trophy from 2 Wood Planks, 1 head and 2 Nails (+1 comfort); the gold version needs 7 heads and a Gold Bar at the Table Saw, so the dragon can be fought again.
