A Timberwood Cone grows a snowless timber tree in the fir shape, the Deep North tree you fell for Timberwood. With cones you can grow a timber forest at home, far from the cold, and cut the biome's wood without sailing north for it. Each cone weighs 0.1, and they stack to 100.

Farming

Plant a cone with the Cultivator and it grows into a timber tree over a few in-game days. Saplings need a fair amount of open space around them, and one planted too close to trees, stumps or large rocks will not grow. Once grown, a timber tree can be felled like any other, and felling it is what gives you the Timberwood.

How to Get It

Cones drop when you chop up snowy fir log halves: each of the ten drops from a half is either Wood, Timberwood or a cone. Snowy pines drop no cones, so fell the firs when you want seed.

Any axe can cut timber trees, even a Stone Axe, and only chop damage harms them. A snowy fir has 200 health, its log 60 and each half log 40, and every hit knocks a clump of snow off the branches. Pines give more Timberwood, about five per half against two for a fir, so a good felling trip takes both: pines for wood and firs for cones.

A home timber forest pays off in every Timberwood recipe: ten for each Nord weapon cast, twenty for the Greatshield, and the timber beams, walls and great furniture of the northern building set, up to fifty for a decorative stack. Pines give far more Timberwood than firs, but only firs drop cones, so a planted grove is all firs.

Notes

Plant in rows with wide gaps, because a crowded grove of saplings will never grow up.
