The Black Metal Missile is ballista ammunition: you load it into a ballista and leave it to guard the walls while you are off somewhere else. It deals 120 pierce damage. Its materials come from the Plains, and it is made at an Artisan Table. At 120 total damage it ranks 3rd among ammunition, a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. Pierce damage hurts the Troll more than most things, and that is the reason to carry it.
How to Craft
Crafted at a level 1 Artisan Table from:
- 10x Wood: chopped from any tree.
- 1x Black Metal: smelted from Black Metal Scrap in a Blast Furnace.

When to Use It
This is mid game gear. Black Metal drops from Fulings in the Plains, well past Moder.
Properties
120 pierce damage for the Ballista, 60 percent more than the Wooden Missile. It is crafted at the Artisan Table.
It earns its place where raids are the threat. A ballista fires on its own while you are elsewhere, so the ammunition in it decides whether a raid is beaten or only delayed.
Notes
- Ammunition damage is added to the weapon's base damage before anything else is calculated, which is why the arrow, not the bow, decides a shot's damage type.
- Bows fire arrows and Crossbows fire bolts, and the 2 are not interchangeable.
- If you carry more than one kind, right-click a stack to choose which one is used.
