Jotun Bane is the axe for the moment the Mistlands sends a seeker brood at you. It mixes Gjall bile and Refined Eitr into an axe whose poison keeps working long after the swing lands. It deals 80 slash, 70 chop and 40 poison damage. At 190 total damage it ranks 6th among axes, so it is a step on the ladder rather than the top of it. In the Mistlands that matters more than it sounds. The Seeker, Seeker Brood and Seeker Soldier shrug off blunt, pierce and slash alike, but not poison, so the poison half is the damage that actually lands. Poison also hurts the Cultist and Ulv more than most things.
How to Craft
Craft it at a level 1 black forge from:
- 5x Yggdrasil Wood: Chopped from Yggdrasil shoots in the Mistlands.
- 15x Iron: Smelted from scrap iron in a smelter.
- 3x Bilebag: Dropped by gjall in the Mistlands.
- 10x Refined Eitr: Refined from sap and soft tissue at an eitr refinery.

When to Use It
Mid game. It needs Mistlands materials and a Black Forge, so it comes after Yagluth and the sea crossing that follows him. The Ashlands and the Deep North still lie beyond this biome.
Upgrades
You can upgrade it 3 times after crafting, and each level needs the station built one step higher than the last. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this is the ladder your own copy sits somewhere on:
| Quality | Crafting Station | Slash | Poison | Chop | Durability | Resources |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black forge (Level 1) | 80 | 40 | 70 | 175 |
|
| 2 | Black forge (Level 2) | 85 | 40 | 73 | 225 |
|
| 3 | Black forge (Level 3) | 90 | 40 | 76 | 275 |
|
| 4 | Black forge (Level 4) | 95 | 40 | 79 | 325 |

Properties
It deals 40 poison, and the Mistlands has no answer to it. None of the creatures there resists poison or is immune to it, while Seekers shrug off blunt, pierce and slash alike. Against the creatures the biome is built around, the poison is the half that lands.
It out-chops Black Metal despite being made of iron, with 70 chop against the Black Metal Axe's 60. It fells the same full list of trees, Yggdrasil shoots included. As a woodcutter, this is the best axe in the game.
It needs a level 1 Black Forge, so you can make it the day you build the station, while the Berserkir Axes need level 3.
Notes
- The blade always glows a faint yellow. It is dimmer than a real light but bright enough to see by, and it raises your visibility while sneaking by about a fifth.
- Poison visibly drips off it and splashes yellow where the drops land.
