Builders fall back on ladders where a staircase will not fit, and the Wood Ladder is the cheapest of them: two Wood for a rung-and-rail climb that hugs a wall. It hangs in the Stairs & Ladders tab beside the stairs. Most people use it to reach a loft, a roof hatch or the top of a tower without giving up half the floor below to steps.
How to Build It
It needs two Wood and a Workbench in range, the same as the rest of the wood set. A ladder needs something solid at its back and a clear landing at the top. You climb it slowly with your hands full, which is the trade for the space it saves. The useful part is that the things hunting you cannot follow you up one, so a loft reached only by ladder stays yours through a raid, as long as the timber holding it up is roofed and sound.
