The Berserker is one of the Cursed Ones, a man who turns into a bear in the heat of battle. Berserkers live in Skellige, and their home is the Vildkaarls' village. They appear in the Skellige quest King's Gambit.

Lore

Skellige mothers use berserkers to scare their children: "Now finish your soup, or a berserker'll come and swallow ye whole." Skellige legends tell of men who turn into bears when battle rage overwhelms them. In that state, they lose all sense of self. They are driven by a bloodlust that they must satisfy before they can return to human form.

Few people believe these blood-curdling tales, not even in Skellige. That says a lot, because the islanders usually take even the least likely legends very seriously. Either berserkers are only a product of mead-soaked minds, or they have learned to hide their gift from the rest of the islanders.

The songs of the skalds say that a berserker in the heat of battle looks just like a true-born bear. Only small details give the secret away, such as the shape of the tongue and the teeth.

Behaviour

The skalds describe berserkers in battle as immune to pain and able to heal almost any wound at once. Their songs also tell of mass murders and massacres committed by these men turned bears.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Cursed Oil. Like werewolves and other cursed beings, berserkers are especially weak to oils that harm the cursed. Igni burns them, and Quen helps to withstand their blows. Devil's Puffball also works well against them.
